As PCB designs get more complex with smaller features on tighter grids, drilled holes continue to get smaller, the need for electrical test becomes more important. Sunstone's electrical test option gives you peace of mind that the board will be delivered to you as the design files were submitted. This will allow you to go straight to assembling your boards without worrying that there is a manufacturing defect that will cause an electrical open or short.
The process that we use at Sunstone is to take your submitted Gerber files and create a net list and test program from that data. We create a customized test program for your design and utilizing MicroCraft flying probe testers verify that there are no electrical discrepancies between the Gerber files submitted and the physical circuit boards. We cannot test directly from a supplied netlist, however (upon request), we can compare our generated netlist to your supplied netlist and insure that the two match.
The standard parameters that we test to are:
Boards are stamped with a mark "ET" (space on board permitting) after test and a Certificate of Conformance - Electrical Test is provided with the shipment.
We highly recommend electrically testing PCBs multiple layers, with drilled holes 0.010" or smaller, trace widths or spaces <= 0.005".
